Pura Vida

You may have noticed a lapse in blog postings recently, due to my trip to Costa Rica. It was truly a life-changing experience. When you go to Costa Rica, you fly into the capital, San Jose, which reminded me a little of L.A. I took a walking tour of the city and was amazed at the emphasis on art, both in the number of galleries as well as in the
street art and murals on every spare wall. Even the public school was beautiful, a large pink stucco building with lots of detail. But the most interesting sight was Cinco Hormigas Rojas, a little vine-covered cottage that reminded me of Alice's rabbit hole again. Las Tiradas

Here is Anabel (aka "Blond Annie":) in Costa Rica, visiting her cousins Tonette, Suki, Carmelita, Delfina, and Margarita, the latest addition to Las Tiradas, as Liz calls the dolls.
(I created Anabel in Los Angeles, while Margarita was found and adopted in Limon, Costa Rica, made by an anonymous doll maker.)

Margarita is a cute, black haired twin to Anabel, who stayed in Costa Rica, while Margarita came back to L.A. with me.

Here are Las Tiradas enjoying themselves at the Lizard King Resort in the sleepy little seaside town of Puerto Viejo. I was only in Costa Rica one week, visiting Liz and Malekai, but we saw so much art, wildlife and beautiful scenery, Liz and I will be talking about it here for weeks to come.

Delphine's New Do

Delphine has gone through many changes since she first came to be a year and a half ago. As you can see, she has lost weight and has had several hairstyles. The most recent is "curls," a new method of tee shirt hair I designed. For now, these bundles of curls are pinned on top of Delphine's more tomboyish, straight hair. The new do makes her
look like Michelle Pfeiffer, no?

Tea Party!

Last Christmas, the dolls had a Mad Hatter's Tea Party with the porcelain tea set made by my Montana sister Vera. Here you can see Delphine, Carmen, Mariel and Mimosa in their party dresses, enjoying tea and Christmas cookies. (Please note how many dresses Delphine wears for this photo shoot!)
